Reactive compatibilization of polymer blends
SPE Plastics Research Online
Share

Rheology is one of the most frequently
used methods for characterizing the interfacial properties of polymers, and the rheological properties of immiscible polymer blends have been studied extensively. The rheological behavior of polymer melts plays an important role in their processing and morphological characteristics with reactive compatibilization having an extensive impact on rheological properties. Paliene's emulsion model provides the most effective rheological characterization in the linear visco-elastic range.

Natural bioplastic material could make cars biodegradable
CNET Reviews

From alternative fuels to soy-foam seats, carmakers are chipping away at the carbon trail their vehicles leave behind. To make their cars even more green, soon they could incorporate car parts that are compostable. Solegear, a Canadian green chemistry start-up, has made the first 100-percent natural bioplastic that is derived from plants. Its completely biodegradable
moldable Polysole product can be used to replace the hard plastic parts of a car's interior, such as knobs, steering wheels, and door panels.

The U.S. lost more jobs than forecast in September, reflecting a decline in government payrolls that shows the damage being done by rising budget deficits. Employers cut staffing by 95,000 workers after a revised 57,000 decrease in August, Labor Department figures in Washington showed. The median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a 5,000 drop. The unemployment rate unexpectedly held at 9.6 percent.

Vertical integration is a time-honored approach to cost savings, promising companies better prices from - and
more control over - their suppliers. For Thailand's polymer king, Indorama Ventures, vertical integration has meant buying into a producer of the acid that it uses to make PET resin. Indorama is now paying $96 million to increase its stake in the company, TPT, as it hopes to capitalize on the growing demand for plastic from Asia's drinks industry.
