The federal government went back to work recently after a 16-day shutdown. While the incident brought disorder and uncertainty to the country, most industry businesses PPAI spoke to withstood it well. “I can’t really point to any major issues yet,” said Larry Whitney, compliance manager at Polyconcept North America, in an interview with PPB. “Goods are still arriving. Because we participate in some customs programs like C-TPAT and FTZ  we are considered a low-risk importer by U.S. Customs and typically don’t encounter delays.”More

SAGE announces 2013 supplier rating award winners
SAGE announces its 2013 supplier rating award winners. Each year SAGE presents industry suppliers with A and A+ rating awards based on distributor ratings collected from SAGE Online and SAGE Mobile. For 2013, 939 suppliers received the top ranking of "A+", while another 540 suppliers received the second highest rating of "A". A total of 73 percent of rated suppliers in SAGE Online received an award this year. As part of the Power of Two relationship between SAGE and PPAI, the SAGE ratings are also incorporated into the eligibility for the industry’s annual PPAI Supplier Star Awards Competition. More

IRS: Shutdown will delay tax filing season

Here's another reason to be annoyed at the 16-day government shutdown: It could delay tax refunds for millions of early filers by one or two weeks, the Internal Revenue Service announced recently. The IRS won't start processing returns until at least Jan. 28 and possibly as late as Feb. 4, instead of the planned start date of January 21. Should the government shut down again in January over budget talks scheduled as part of the deal to reopen the federal government, refunds could be tied up even longer.More
