7 ways to double the value of your online business in 12 months
Every online business should be building an email list of subscribers to engage with and market to. Every person on your list subscribed because they are genuinely interested in what you are offering. Each is a great potential customer, but also potentially a lifelong brand ambassador.
Instead of just sending them promotional offers, mix in some emails that present them with some useful content (such as a free ebook).
Here's where it pays the most to be a small business owner
The Washington Post
Many small business owners around the country are pretty fed up with Washington, D.C.
But for those who actually live in the nation's capital, there may not be much reason to complain.
Self-employed individuals in Washington, D.C., enjoy a higher median income than their counterparts in the 50 states — and it's not even close. The median annual haul for District business owners is $91,644, according to new data released recently by the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy. Second on the list is Massachusetts, where the median income for self-employed individuals is $61,434.
Words can boost or block your business
By Fred Berns
"To be successful, you have to be unique," Walt Disney once said. "You have to be so different that, if people want what you have, they have to come to you to get it." Establishing your uniqueness, and differentiating your company depends a lot on the words you choose to use. How you describe your services and yourselves may well determine the quality and quantity of clients you attract.
10 social media tools for small businesses and freelancers
It's safe to say that social media has become an internal part of the lives of those who either work online, or spend a lot of time away from their family and friends abroad. And not just that, social media is revolutionizing the classroom, changing our workspace, and allowing us to build new communities in a matter of minutes.
The marketing tools that can help fuel business growth
It's no secret that growth is the key to business success. Without growth, profits remain flat, which is why we've seen so much interest in the process of "growth hacking" among startups of all kinds over the past few years. But when it comes down to it, growth happens through marketing, and the best marketing happens when you use the best tools.
Here are 11 of the marketing tools you'll want to take into consideration when it comes to fueling your business growth.
Small business job growth slows, but hours, earnings up
U.S. News & World Report
Two employment reports issued recently show small business job growth is slowing, but employees are working longer hours and making more money.
ADP's National Employment Report and Intuit's Small Business Employment and Revenue Indexes launched ahead of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Employment Situation report to be released later.
Why the Street trusts Facebook more than Yahoo
Marissa Mayer and Mark Zuckerberg had similar problems recently but gave Wall Street starkly different answers. And the choices the CEOs of Yahoo and Facebook made speak volumes about their companies' futures.
Both are sitting on huge piles of cash — Mayer from Yahoo's $40 billion stake in Chinese e-tailer Alibaba, and Zuckerberg from the $11.2 billion stash generated by Facebook's accelerating operating cash flow, which reached $5.5 billion last year.
