Flanagan wins PPB Multi-Line Rep of the Year

New suppliers added for THE Show of the South
SPPA
SPPA is pleased to announce that four new suppliers have signed up to exhibit at THE Show of the South, scheduled for March 17-18 in Birmingham. Ariel Premium Supply, BagMakers, Credential Express, and Gill Studios have all been added to the lineup.

“We hated to reschedule the show in January, but Mother Nature left us no choice,” said Charlie Cochran, president of SPPA. “It may have been a blessing in disquise, because it looks like we are going to have an awesome show in March.”

Distributors who had previously registered for the show in January are automatically registered for the rescheduled show in March. There is still time to buy a booth or register to attend — both can be done on the SPPA website — www.sunbeltppa.org.

3-D printing 'ink' is way too expensive

3-D printer prices are steadily dropping in an attempt to woo hobbyists, but there's still a costly barrier to mainstream adoption: 3-D printer "ink." Plastic filament, the standard material used by 3-D printers typically ranges in price from $25 to $45 for a kilogram depending on the quality and manufacturer. That's a huge markup over the $2-per-kilogram cost of the plastic pellets used to make the filaments. Manufacturing and research and development account for some of the filament's added cost over the original materials.

OSHA proposes $91,800 in fines for Ohio printing company

Globus Printing & Packaging Co. Inc. has been cited by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration for 24 safety and health violations, carrying proposed penalties of $91,800. OSHA initiated an inspection of the Minster-based manufacturing plant in August 2013 after receiving a complaint. “Workers were exposed daily to many dangerous hazards at the Globus Printing & Packaging Co.,” said Kim Nelson, OSHA’s area director in Toledo. “The company lacks adequate employee training on those hazards.”
