Recruiters and employers are discovering people on social media they'd like to employ, while prospects and customers are discovering people on social media who can solve their problems. Gumby helps in promotional company's revival

Lucy Costa and her husband Jack make their living selling those promotional items merchants love to stuff into tote bags and give away at special events and grand openings. Chances are up to 25 percent of the people reading this have such an item in their possession right now. So the irony is after the Great Recession walloped their base of construction companies, real estate agents and developers it wasn't a high-interest bank loan or demanding investor that revived the company. It was Gumby.

Small-business owners swarm DC to oppose ObamaCare fines

Small-business owners are descending on Washington to lobby Congress to roll back an ObamaCare rule that could hit companies with thousands of dollars' worth of penalties. About 150 small-business owners, organized by the National Federation of Independent Business, will head to Capitol Hill on Thursday to make the case to members from their states on legislation that would change the rule.

Joe Haley, managing editor of magazines at the Advertising Specialty Institute, a for-profit organization providing research, training and trade shows for promotions-related businesses, says the ideal freebie is a form advertising that sticks: "You can’t channel-surf promotional products," he noted.
