SPPA members become certified product safety ambassadors

PPAMS and SPPA held a product safety conference earlier this week and over 20 individuals earned there Product Safety Ambassador designation. The day-long conference covered issues like Prop 65, State Regulations, Undue Influence, Apparel Decoration, and Product Safety Basics.

Hanesbrands Inc. has record-breaking second quarter

Hanesbrands, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, attributed its strong second quarter numbers to its Maidenform Brands Inc. acquisition, activewear performance and increased operating efficiencies. The quarter that ended June 28 netted a 12 percent sales increase to $1.34 billion as a result of the company's Innovate-to-Elevate strategy; strong activewear segment results; increased supply chain manufacturing efficiencies; tight control of selling, general and administrative costs; and successful integration of the October 2013 Maidenform acquisition. Hanesbrands expects net sales to reach more than $5 billion this year.

Women business owners face gender gap, report says

Women who own small business are still far behind their male counterparts when it comes to getting loans and government contracts, a congressional report said. The report by Democratic staffers of the Senate Small Business & Entrepreneurship Committee found that while businesses owned by women account for 30 percent of small companies, they receive only 4.4 percent of the total dollars in conventional small-business loans. That amounts to $1 for every $23 loaned.
