Etsy bans sale of items bearing Redskins name and logo
TODAY
Those planning on getting a Washington Redskins peasant dress or decorative wreath for that special football fan in their lives this fall will not be able to find it on Etsy. The site that sells handmade and vintage items announced that it will no longer sell items featuring the Redskins logo or name on them. That means the red-and-yellow tutu in team colors is acceptable, but the Redskins bling cap with the team logo on it is now a no-no.

Garment industry says 200 plants shut since Bangladesh disaster

More than 200 garment factories have shut down in Bangladesh since the country's worst industrial disaster prompted a massive clean-up of the world's second-largest textile sector, an industry group said. The closures have cost tens of thousands of jobs and led to a fall in exports, raising worries about the $24.5 billion industry — the key economic mainstay for the impoverished nation of 155 million people.

Small businesses spend more on social media than any other media

Social has become the top media platform for small and medium businesses when it comes to usage and spending, according to a new report from research firm BIA/Kelsey. The report found that 74.5 percent of small and medium businesses — defined as those with fewer than 100 employees — now use social media to advertise or promote their businesses. This is up from 71.7 percent last year.

FedEx joins UPS preparing for holiday e-commerce surge

Tens of thousands more workers will don UPS brown and FedEx purple this holiday season, a measure of precaution ahead of an anticipated jump in year-end e-commerce growth. This year UPS is hiring as many as 95,000 seasonal workers and FedEx Corp. is taking on at least 50,000 more to ensure people get their iPhones and foot massagers on time even as consumers tempt fate by waiting later and later to buy online.
