Housing construction rebound is in slo-mo, economists say
The Dallas Morning News
Share

A weak national economic
recovery will slow down the pace of the housing market rebound this year. Even with an expected 25 percent increase in nationwide home starts, U.S. housing construction will remain at one of the lowest levels in generations. But at least the numbers are moving back up again, economists at the National Association of Home Builders' conference say. "The builders have been through a really tough time the last three years," said David Crowe, the builders association's chief economist. "It won't be a
strong recovery, but it will be a recovery – that's still very good news."

El Paso Times

The city government says it is in better financial shape than last year. Through the first quarter of the fiscal year, sales tax revenue continues to be down, but property tax revenue is up slightly, Deputy
City Manager Bill Studer told the City Council. The city is on pace to come close to meeting its $313 million general-fund budget even if the economy does not improve and will do better if the national recession eases, he said.

Perry and Hutchison draw money from DC
The Austin American-Statesman First Reading Blog

We all know that Gov. Rick Perry is no fan of Washington, D.C. In fact, he held an event in Fort Worth to offer his critique of President Barack Obama's first year in office. Perry hasn't stopped there with his Washington critique, framing his
re-election challenge from U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison as a Texas-versus-Washington fight. First Reading has reported previously that Perry has held fundraisers in the nation's capital. In the second half of 2009, Perry raised $37,500 in Washington, while Hutchison raised $19,900. For all of 2009, Hutchison raised $45,165 from Washington and Perry raised $38,225.
