The University Interscholastic League's Class 4A state soccer tournaments feature an unusual bracketing twist this season: Some district champions played first-round matches while some fourth-place finishers received byes. Byes were awarded based on geography, not performance. The brackets also created a sectional round, meaning a team might need to win eight matches to earn the state title.

To give his players room to stretch out on a recent trip to Georgetown, Wylie baseball coach Dustin Toth arranged for use of a 52-passenger bus. But when Toth got on board, he noticed a lot of empty rows up front. "The players were all bunched up in the back," he said. Stretching out, it seems, wasn't as important to the players as hanging out together. Especially for the seniors, who might be the tightest-knit group you'll find. Here's one reason: Eight of them have been teammates for so long, they remember playing on the same T-ball team. More
