The Galveston Independent School District board unanimously approved the hire of the 49-year-old Aldine Nimitz head coach as the high school’s next athletic coordinator/head football coach. He replaces Ron Holmes, who announced his retirement after six seasons as the Tornadoes’ head football coach. More

The separation of public and private schools at the high school level is a very good thing, and both parties appear to be content with the current setup. But State Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) wants to change the landscape of high school athletics in Texas. Public high schools in Texas compete in the University Interscholastic League (UIL), and private schools have membership in Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) and other similar organizations. Patrick is the author of a bill that would require the UIL to admit private schools into its ranks, starting in 2010-11. The senate bill made it out of the Senate Education Committee and is expected to be heard soon on the Senate Floor. More

Wildcats Race to District Track Crowns
