Poteet's Hebert Soars to Prominence

An offseason move-in from Louisiana, Adam Hebert told his new coaches at Poteet that he'd been one of the fastest juniors in his old home state. “We were like, ‘Yeah, right,'” track and field coach Carlos Saenz said. Then Hebert beat J.J. Moses, Poteet's fastest athlete, in an informal footrace, prompting Saenz to double-check Hebert's claims on the Internet. Sure enough, his name immediately popped up, most notably for placing second in the 100-meter dash, third in the 200 and third in the long jump at last year's Class 5A state meet. More
Waxahachie Celebrates 100-Year-Old Baseball Field

There was a gathering of former Waxahachie baseball players at Paul Richards Park recently that had special meaning. The players were all part of a high school team that played in the 1940s. They were there to not only celebrate their era, but 100 years of baseball at Waxahachie High School. The school first starting playing games in 1909, but historians have discovered that Waxahachie had baseball as early as 1885, long before an organized public school team began to play.

Coaches on the Move at Georgetown, Lockhart

Coming off a playoff season, Georgetown High School hired a boys basketball coach with ample postseason experience. Former Frisco Centennial head coach Russell Miller comes to Georgetown with a career record of 152-108 over seven seasons, including three playoff appearances. Miller replaces Kenneth Hoffpauir, who went 22-12 in his final season and recently accepted an assistant coach's position at McMurry University in Abilene. In other coaching news, Lockhart football coach Troy Moses has accepted a position as athletic director and varsity coach in Beeville. Moses went to high school at nearby Orange Grove and his wife, Kim, a Lockhart teacher, is from Alice. More
