Smithson Valley Coach Daigle’s Retirement Accepted

Comal Independent School District accepted the retirement of Smithson Valley softball coach Wayne Daigle in a school board meeting. Daigle, 63, led the Rangers to the Class 5A state championship earlier this month. The Express-News Area Coach of the Year, Daigle had a 347-75 record in his 13 years at Smithson Valley, including another state championship in Class 4A in 2001. More

Gatesville Senior Helped Make History

In 2007, the Lady Hornets reached the playoffs for the first time. In 2008, they won a playoff game for the first time. When Isaac Rodriguez ruptured his appendix in the middle of an historic postseason run, Miles High School head baseball coach Jason Archibald immediately got on the Internet to get a prognosis. After missing most of the playoff run, the 5-foot-8, 150-pound junior bounced back from an injured ankle and the ruptured appendix to play an instrumental role in the Bulldogs’ remarkable run to the Class 1A state championship last month at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.For his efforts, Rodriguez was named the Standard-Times’ All-West Texas Baseball Team MVP this season, and Archibald earned coach-of-the-year accolades.
