Dicus Deserves Plenty of Credit for Lake Travis' Success
from the Austin American-Statesman
Lake Travis??? players and coaches crossed the field to shake hands with Hutto after the Cavaliers won their 36th straight football game at Cavalier Stadium. The Cavaliers, ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press state poll, boast two straight Class 4A state championships
and there is reason to believe No. 3 is within reach. They have a proven coaching staff, a blue-chip quarterback, playmakers at nearly every position, and a strong belief that the only ones who can beat them is themselves.

Progress
Measured Daily by Ozen Football Team
from the Beaumont Enterprise
First-year Ozen football coach Jeff Nelson rested his right hand on the back of a player's shoulder pads, corralled him into his chest and pointed his left arm downfield. The player peered down Nelson's arm like a hunter would a rifle and nodded after Nelson
spoke. Between each play is when Nelson offers hands-on instruction to players. On some days, Nelson exposes players to another chapter in the always-expanding playbook. On most days, Nelson repeats information until his players achieve a full understanding.
The goal every week is for a Friday-night victory. The message Nelson delivers daily in practice is for players to focus on progress.

George West Boasts Deep,
Talented Backfield
from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
George West's Cayleb Holt was a freshman the first time he handled the football in a varsity game. Playing against Santa Rosa, Holt returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown only to have the points taken off the scoreboard because of a penalty. The junior
has more than made up for the missed opportunity since then. Holt leads George West's stable of running backs with 532 yards and 10 touchdowns despite sharing the rushing duties with three other ball carriers. That's just fine with Holt as long as the Longhorns
keep piling up the victories. More
Lamar Back Runs for Six TDs and 339 Yards
from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Arlington Lamar running back Ja'Terian Douglas has an understanding with his offensive line. "Just give me a little cushion, and I'll get it there," he has told his teammates. "There" refers to the end zone, a place Douglas reached six times Friday in leading
the Vikings to a 56-27 victory against Arlington Sam Houston in a District 4-5A game at Cravens Field. Douglas, who also scored on a 2-point conversion run in the second quarter, carried 32 times for 339 yards. He came just 14 yards shy of tying his own single-game
city record of 353 yards. More
University
Trojans Make Waco History with 24-14 Win Over Lions
from the Waco Tribune-Herald
The University Trojans lifted a huge burden off their own shoulders Friday night at Waco ISD Stadium. After University closed out a 24-14 victory over Waco ISD rival Waco High, the Trojans players, coaches and fans seemed to be walking on air and singing to
the heavens. And who could blame them? University had never beaten the Lions since three schools consolidated to form Waco High in 1986. The Lions owned a 9-0 record against the Trojans and a 7-0 mark at Waco ISD Stadium. No more.

Stanford Settling
Down at Sterling City

Whenever a new coach takes over a team in any sport, there???s always an adjustment period for the players to get accustomed to a new way of thinking. That was certainly the case for the Sterling City High School volleyball team and first-year head coach Brooke
Sanford. But now that the Lady Eagles have adapted to the new coaching philosophy, Sterling City is playing its best volleyball of the season at the right time—during District 4-1A play.
