TEXAS FOOTBALL FESTIVALS KICKING OFF IN MARCH & APRIL
Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. may be best known in the sports world for building one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties, the San Francisco 49ers. As the owner of the 49ers, he won five Super Bowl Championships and brought together Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, and Coach Bill Walsh. His latest sports vision has been the launch of a new amateur sports education organization, DeBartolo Sports University. DeBartolo Sports University is putting on Texas Football Festivals in Dallas and Houston in the coming weeks. The Football Festivals are three days of football featuring six different events. These events were created to bring together great coaches and athletes who have the drive and commitment to learn and develop their skills.
Touted as the biggest weekend of off-season training, the Football Festivals are run Friday evening through Sunday. Friday nights feature an Underclassmen Showcase Camp designed to help underclassmen obtain recruiting exposure and gain education about the recruiting process. Following the showcase on Friday evening is a QB, WR, & Lineman Skills Challenge event. The challenges were all designed by NFL coaches and players and provide both youth and high school athletes with fun and competitive events like the big man obstacle course, the QB target toss, and the QB & WR 40 yard drive. Each position has the chance to compete in six skills challenge events.
On Saturday, the Festival opens up with a FREE coaches clinic for all youth and high school coaches that feature NFL players and coaches as instructors. Saturday and Sunday feature two strong teaching camps where NFL coaches teach and instruct. The Super 7 QB & WR Academy and the Lineman Academy both are designed and run by NFL Coaches and players. They were modeled after an NFL training camp and include position specific agility and speed training, core strength training, film study, class room chalk talks, and intense on-field skill development. The Super 7 QB & WR Academy is open to youth and high school athletes at the quarterback, receiver, running back and tight end positions. The Lineman Academy is open to youth and high school offensive and defensive linemen. The lineman program also offers a special curriculum that focuses on long snapping and shot gun snapping.
Training Philosophy: All of DeBartolo Sports University’s programs were designed to provide athletes and coaches with a first class training and development environment. We highly recommend that entire units attend the program together to ensure that they have the opportunity as a group to develop and learn from our NFL coaches. We offer athletes a team discount as well as financial aid for those who qualify. All of our training is position specific as we believe that quarterbacks should train using movements that are functional to the quarterback position and linemen should train using movements that are functional to the line positions.
