We Need Your Support in Austin
from TSRA
HB 410 by State Rep. Carl Isett (R-Lubbock) which would eliminate the notification requirement and associated penalties for a CHL. Current law requires a CHL to display their license when they are in possession of their firearm when stopped by law enforcement. The first failure to display can result in a 90 day suspension and the penalty becomes more serious a subsequent infraction. There are no notification requirements or penalties for the legal possession of a handgun by persons without a concealed handgun.

HB 267 by State Rep. Dennis Bonnen (R-Angleton) as filed, harmonizes state and federal law and allows Texans to purchase shotguns and rifles in non-contiguous states. Current federal law allows interstate sales and transfer of such firearms, but out dated sections of the Penal Code limit Texas residents to purchasing of long guns in neighboring states, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. National Instant Check System has denied the purchase and transfer of such firearms to Texas residents based wholly on Texas state law. More

More Gun Control Introduced in Congress
from American Thinker
In a new bill introduced the first day of present session of Congress, H.R. 45 (Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009) targets all gun owners in the U.S. This bill jeopardizes our Constitutional Rights to possess and bear firearms of any distinction. It requires, within the first two years, that all new guns be registered. The bill goes retroactive after two years. More

Update On National Right-To-Carry Reciprocity Bills
from NRAILA
Last week, Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) introduced S. 371, the Senate companion bill to H.R. 197 -- the "National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009." H.R. 197 was introduced last month by U.S. Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Rick Boucher (D-Va.), and would provide national recognition for valid state Right-to-Carry licensees. The bill would allow any person with a valid carry permit or license issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any other state if the permit holder meets certain criteria. More

Obama, Ginsburg and Guns
from Town Hall
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is being treated for pancreatic cancer. While Americans pray for her recovery, this sad news is a sobering reminder that President Obama is likely to appoint several justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. And in the aftermath of last year’s landmark decision on the Second Amendment, gun owners need to zero in on what these events mean for the future of the right to bear arms. More

Firearm Sales Continue Upward in January
from the National Shooting Sports Foundation
Despite a weak economy and slumping retail sales, firearm sales continued to increase in January, continuing an upswing that began after November's election. Data from the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) show background checks on the sale of firearms jumped 28.8 percent in January when compared to January 2008. The increase follows a 24 percent rise in December and a 42 percent jump in November, when a record 1,529,635 background checks were performed. More
