65.4 million guns purchases since Obama took office
CNS News
There have been 65,376,373 background checks completed for Americans purchasing firearms since February of 2009, the first full month of Barack Obama's presidency. According to data compiled by the FBI, the number of Americans purchasing guns has skyrocketed since Obama was elected. In 2009, there were 13,984,953 background checks for Americans buying firearms. If we subtract the 1,212,860 checks completed in the month of January, the total checks for the year under Obama were 12,772,090.

Olympic Arms to New York state — Take your business elsewhere
Ammo Land
Olympic Arms is a staunch believer in and defender of the Constitution of the United States, and with special attention paid to the Bill of Rights that succinctly enumerates the security of our divinely given rights. One of those rights is that to Keep and Bear Arms. Due the passing of New York's legislation, Olympic Arms would like to announce that the state of New York, any law enforcement departments, law enforcement officers, first responders within the state of New York or any New York state government entity or employee of such an entity — will no longer be served as customers.

COMMENTARY: What is an Assault Weapon?
By M. George Eichenberg, Ph.D.
Controlling definitions of key terms is perhaps more central to the gun rights debate than most gun owners (and writers) are aware. Nowhere is this more true than that aspect of the debate concerning so-called assault weapons. “Why do you need an assault weapon?’ is a not uncommon question. We usually (hopefully) attempt to respond to the question with a rational, well-reasoned explanation of why we want or need such firearms.

Industry works to avoid listing of prairie grouse
The Associated Press via The Daily Times
Oil, gas and wind energy producers are working to persuade federal wildlife officials not to enact protections for the lesser prairie chicken, a move that could force them to halt or significantly alter their operations to protect the species' dwindling grassland habitat. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will hold its final public hearings this week on its proposal to list the prairie grouse as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. This comes after decades of population declines that experts blame in part on the expansion of farms, ranches and energy industry operations across the Southwest and other states.

Hunting tournament raises funds, reduces feral hog count
Longview News-Journal
Hog hunters in Upshur County accomplished two objectives recently: Raising money for the Gilmer Chamber of Commerce and reducing the number of feral hogs in the county. This is the fourth year of the Upshur County Goes Hog Wild Hunting Tournament, said organizer Jeff Dodd and it does at least make a dent in the problems caused by hogs. "Feral hogs are a problem all over the state," Dodd said. "They tear up pasture land and kill livestock. This one hunt isn't going to do a lot, but at least it helps some."

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Keys to being a responsible gun owner
Guns & Ammo
There's no need to dig into the specifics of this latest swing of the political pendulum because it's the same story as before. A criminal has harmed and killed innocent people with firearms. Therefore, those in power must "do something" about it right now. And, as in the past, rather than pursuing criminal prosecutions and enforcing existing laws, politicians and lobbyists are blaming the Average Joes and the types of guns they choose to own.

How the Obama gun control proposals compare to 1994
Guns & Ammo
Just three short months ago, most articles about gun control focused on how little traction it had. Practically every public opinion poll showed guns and gun owners were held in higher esteem than they had been in decades. Gun sales were through the roof. Pro-gun legislation — castle doctrine, concealed-carry reciprocity, you name it — was on the march in most states. The Supreme Court told Washington, D.C., and Chicago that the Constitution did indeed apply to their cities.

Hunters and Anglers have $4.1 billion impact on Texas' economy
Lake Houston Observer
The 2.7 million people that hunt or fish in Texas have a tremendous impact on the state's economy. In 2011, these outdoorsmen and women spent $4.1 billion with a ripple effect of $7.26 billion and supported 65,993 jobs in the state. New data released by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation documents the importance of sportsmen and women's activities in Texas and across the nation. The state fact sheets follow the release of CSF's national report, "America's Sporting Heritage, Fueling the American Economy," that was released in mid-January.

Sen. Cruz: Constitutional gun rights must be protected 'not just when popular'
The Associated Press via CBS News
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, top Republican on the Senate Judiciary subcommittee, expressed sympathy for those directly affected by gun violence. But he added that constitutional rights must be protected "not just when they're popular, but especially when passions are seeking to restrict and limit those rights." Cruz said he believed that "stripping the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens does nothing to stop criminals" from committing violent acts.

Selecting a defensive holster
American Rifleman
Too often people spend a lot of time and thought on selecting the proper defensive handgun and then choose the holster to carry it in as an afterthought. In reality, selecting the proper defensive holster is almost as important as the gun itself. Fortunately there are a broad array of holsters, of all makes and materials, from which to choose. With a little thought, time and experimentation, it is really quite easy to find the rig that suits you best.

Colorado Democrats want gun manufacturers held liable for crimes committed with their guns
Fox News
The owners and makers of assault-style weapons could soon be held legally liable in Colorado for crimes committed with their guns, if sponsors of a new gun-control package have their way. State Democrats unveiled the broad package of measures, joined by gun violence survivors from the Columbine, Colo., Aurora, Colo., and Sandy Hook, Conn., shootings. The eight bills detailed at a press conference tackle gun control as well as mental health issues tied to gun violence. Among them are measures to put universal background checks in place for private gun sales and a bill to ban sales of high-capacity ammunition magazines. But getting the most attention is the gun manufacturer-liability measure.
