Ammo shortage costs law enforcement
The Register-Mail
As gun control debates rage on nationwide, high demand for ammunition has led to long waiting periods and soaring prices for local law enforcement agencies. Officials say the rising demand is caused mainly by the military's need for ammunition combined with civilians rushing to sweep up as much as possible in case tighter regulations prevent them from buying certain types of guns or ammunition in the near future.

As the No. 1 resource for premium whitetail sales in Texas, the Texas Deer Association is pleased to announce its first event of 2013 raised nearly $1 million and was a huge success for its members, the industry and the economy. Several hundred whitetail enthusiasts, deer breeders, ranchers, exhibitors and sportsmen gathered this weekend at Retama Park in Selma, Texas, for the TDA's first Superior Genetic Whitetail Deer Auction of 2013 and the results indicate growing strength for an industry dedicated to conserving wildlife through commerce. The two-day event, which included a Wildlife Workshop sponsored by Purina, generated more than $960,000, an increase of 15 percent over last year's event.

How to interact with police while carrying
Guns & Ammo
By James Tarr, a contributor for Guns & Ammo, writes: "I've been 'not a cop' a lot longer than I was a cop, and have had a lot of experiences interacting with officers while armed and in street clothes, usually while working as a private investigator. I've had both great and horrible experiences, but have learned from all of them. Here's some helpful advice for interacting with the police as an armed citizen."

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Good news — Hunter numbers are up
Sports Afield
The news about the future of hunting isn't as bleak as it may have appeared a few years ago. A new government report shows that hunter numbers have jumped 9 percent in the past five years. The just-released "2011 National Survey of Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife-Associated Recreation" shows 13.7 million people, or 6 percent of the U.S. population age 16 and older, went hunting last year. That marks a 9 percent increase over 2006, reversing a previous downward trend. Conservation groups are noting that these numbers are important not just for hunters themselves, but for wildlife and for the future of conservation.

Semi-automatic firearms and the 'assault weapon' issue overview
Ammo Land
Semi-automatic firearms were introduced more than a century ago. The first semi-automatic rifle was introduced in 1885, the first semi-automatic pistol in 1892, and the first semi-automatic shotgun in 1902. Semi-automatics account for about 20 percent of the 300 million privately-owned firearms in the United States and the percentage is quickly rising, because semi-automatics now account for about 50 percent of all new firearms bought annually.

Cleon Carraway, the hog whisperer
North Texas e-News
Luke Clayton, a contributor for the North Texas e-News, writes: "There is a great deal of information available on most aspects of wild hog hunting but the art of using calls to attract porkers within shooting range is one that is often skirted around, probably because of lack of factual information. Through the years, I've had very limited success using calls to attract hogs. The lion's share of my failures I attribute to lack of skill on my part and possibly the fault of the calls I used to perfectly duplicate the sounds made by wild hogs."
