Court denies petition for rehearing in suit asking EPA to ban traditional ammo
Ammoland
Anti-hunting groups recently suffered another defeat when the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the Center for Biological Diversity's request for rehearing of the court's decision not to ban traditional lead ammunition under the Toxic Substances Control Act. The court took less than three weeks to issue a one-sentence order rejecting the CBD lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency.

Lawmakers taking another crack at expanding gun checks
The Associated Press via ABC News
Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords returned to Capitol Hill to help kick-start a longshot campaign to expand criminal background checks to all commercial firearms sales. Similar legislation that sought to expand background checks failed to get a hearing in the House last session. With the GOP expanding its majority and winning control of the Senate, prospects for the bill may be even more unlikely this session.

Proposed ban on popular bullet triggers run on ammo sales
CBS News
A proposed federal ban on the manufacture and sale of popular ammunition for AR-15 semiautomatic rifles has prompted angry gun enthusiasts to stock up on the coveted bullets. Last month, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced that it was seeking to ban the armor-piercing 5.56-millimeter bullet commonly used in AR-15 semiautomatic rifles. The agency said the proposed ban was "to protect the lives and safety of law enforcement officers from the threat posed by ammunition capable of penetrating a protective vest." Once gun-rights advocates got word of the move, they rushed to buy cases of the bullets.

Girls with guns: 7 tips for women on buying your 1st handgun
Newsmax
Deciding which handgun to buy is a huge decision, and although in most cases a woman's life will not depend on it, the reality is that in a self-defense situation, the right gun can be a lifesaver and the wrong gun a hindrance for "girls with guns". Girls with guns is a catchy phrase to describe the rise in well-armed women but for the most part, women take their firearms just as seriously as men do. The P-17 Enfield
Field & Stream
As we all know, the Doughboys of World War I made the Kaiser dance with that quintessentially American bolt-action, the Model 1903 Springfield. This included Sergeant Alvin York, who won his Medal of Honor with an '03 and a Model 1911 Colt. Right? Wrong. The truth is that our main battle rifle in the War to End All Wars was a long, heavy, unglamorous piece of machinery that was actually designed by the British — the U.S. Model 1917 Rifle, more commonly called the P-17 Enfield.

Remington 700 Mountain Rifle
Outdoor Life Magazine (Opinion)
Andy Moore of Lanark, Ontario, shares this account of his favorite gun. My favorite gun is one that was passed down to me from my grandfather, who instilled a passion and love for the outdoors in me from a very early age. Every time I take this old rifle out of the cabinet, I can't help but reflect on the times spent with him afield and on the water, and the memories we made together. After taking his son's Remington Model 700 BDL .308 on a moose hunt to Lake of the Woods, my grandfather knew he had to trade his tired 7600 Pump .308 in for something a little better suited for moose. But Papa also wanted a rifle that would do the job for whitetails as well.

What exactly is trophy hunting?
By John McAdams
Trophy hunting is a misunderstood topic these days, even among hunters. The many misconceptions and myths that surround trophy hunting have helped turn it into a controversial subject. Some of these misconceptions are probably the result of anti-hunters deliberately looking to misconstrue the true benefits of trophy hunting and use it to divide the hunting community in general. However, some of the misconceptions about trophy hunting are undoubtedly the result of people being misinformed and ignorant of its benefits.
