Gun culture is alive and well in the Lone Star State, at least according to a poll conducted by the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Tribune. The poll, which surveyed 1,200 registered Texan Voters between Feb. 15-24, found that 52 percent of respondents believe that the state's gun laws should either be left as they are now (36 percent) or made less strict (16 percent). How to customize your Mossberg 500
Shooting Times
Joseph von Benedikt, a contributor for Shooting Time, writes: "This project was hatched during a slow afternoon sitting in a box blind over a food plot in Pike County, Ill. White Oak Reserve produces the occasional world-class whitetail buck, but none were cavorting about the stand that particular day. A stock Mossberg 500 LPA slug gun was my companion and as the slow day wore on, I found myself contemplating what would make the perfect all-around shotgun for a resident of Illinois and other states with similar slug-only hunting regulations."

Colorado Democrats pass most gun-control bills but drop 2 after rape outcry
The Washington Times
Colorado stands to lose its status as a premier hunting and sports-shooting destination if the governor signs gun-control bills now rolling through the state legislature, according to an executive producer for the Outdoor Channel. Michael Bane, an executive producer for four hunting-related shows, said in a letter that the Outdoor Channel will move its production out of Colorado if the bills become law. Other hunting shows, organizations and clubs are also expected to avoid the state, he said.

SHOWCASE
FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Simply rigged decoys make duck hunting better
Ramsey Russell Outdoors Blog
There's a lot to be said for the old adage or working smarter, not harder. With the next duck hunting season many months away, there's plenty of time to get decoys rigged. The not so good old days entailed hurriedly wrapping decoy lines around keels with numb fingers. Sometime later, the consequences of badly tangled lines were suffered during a mad scramble to sort them in poor lighting. Inevitably, swarms of ducks flew like crazy at that exact moment, departing unscathed except for the intemperate profanities expressed by whoever was responsible for untangling the mess.

Spring turkey hunting 101
North Texas eNews
Luke Clayton, a contributor for the North Texas eNews, writes: "With the spring turkey season a few weeks away, it's time to plan our upcoming hunt, time to break out the old box and slate calls and make sure they are in working order. I have a good buddy that has his 'turkey box' that contains all his turkey hunting gear, everything from chalk for his calls to face mask and camo netting for a quick blind. About this time each March, Bob takes great pleasure in sorting through his gear, replacing what needs replacing and adding new items that he thinks might make him a more effective turkey hunter."
