Fox News
Share

Sales of handguns and ammunition are booming across the country, and retailers say it's all about the November election. Gun shop owners around the nation told FoxNews.com that sales, brisk ever since President Obama was elected, have spiked upward in recent months. And manufacturers are having so much trouble keeping up with the demand that one, Sturm, Ruger & Co., can't keep up with demand.

The number of Texas hunting accidents in 2011 declined to the lowest since statistical records began in 1966, according to a new report by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The number of people injured in hunting accidents in Texas fell from 25 in 2010 to 23 in 2011, and fatalities also declined from four to two during the same period. More important than the annual dips and peaks, however, is the long-term trend continues to track downward.

Turkey numbers should be fine despite drought, wildfires
Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Much of their habitat went up in smoke during Texas' record-setting wildfires or wilted under severe drought conditions that spanned across most of the state, but Texas' wild turkeys might provide better hunting this spring than many hunters expect. Last year's turkey spring breeding season was a bust. Even without the more than 30,000 wildfires that erupted across the state in 2011 and destroyed 3.9 million acres, the drought was enough to bring the turkeys' nesting desires to a standstill.
