Threat Management Under Stress For Responsible Armed Citizens

San Antonio, Texas 24-25 May 2014

Fort Hood soldier: 'Stripped of God-given right,' all I could do was 'wait to die'
The Washington Times
A soldier who survived the gruesome murders at Fort Hood recently penned a letter to Texas lawmakers, urging them to prevent another tragedy from happening again by allowing soldiers to carry personal firearms on base. "Stripped of my God-given Right to arm myself, the only defensive posture I had left was to lie prostrate on the ground, and wait to die," writes 1st Lieutenant Patrick Cook of the 49th Transportation Battalion, who witnessed the massacre firsthand.

Questions to ask before hunting abroad
The Daily Caller
Mia Anstine, for Women's Outdoor News, writes: "I dream of hunting abroad. In our downtime we chat about where we would like to go. Can you imagine how long the list is? We've all had those, 'If I won the lottery' chats, right? The 'where' question really isn't the hard part because we'd be happy to see the entire world. That is, if money, safety and time weren't issues. Now we just have to figure out how to get there. I chatted with a few of our friends who are experienced world travelers and accomplished hunters. Their answers about hunting abroad enlightened us."

GOP Rep. Stockman urges House to repeal gun ban on military bases
Townhall
The grievous shooting at Fort Hood recently claimed three innocent lives and left 16 wounded — the deaths occurred in a gun-free zone due to former president Clinton's 1993 policy to disarm soldiers on military bases. The attack at Fort Hood lasted 15 minutes before military police arrived and exchanged fire with the shooter who then shot himself, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Gun rights group protests San Antonio law
KSATY-TV
VideoBrief Dozens of armed San Antonians gathered outside the San Antonio Police Department's west substation to protest the treatment of one of their members by officers and to take aim at a controversial city law. On March 31, Henry Vichique was walking home with his loaded rifle slung over his shoulder. Someone called 911 and when police arrived they asked the 19-year-old to put his weapon down. Vichique did not comply with the order and officers used a Taser to subdue him.

A caretaker and a killer: How hunters can save the wilderness
The Atlantic
By Tovar Cerulli: "Fourteen years ago, I stood in the snow, struggling to digest what I had heard. A group of us, gathered to learn about monitoring and protecting wildlife habitat, had just discovered that our instructor — Sue Morse, founder of Keeping Track — was a deer hunter. I found the news disturbing. How could she work to safeguard the homes of animals she described as 'neighbors' and then turn around and shoot one of them? I found it inconceivable that someone could be both an environmentalist and a hunter, a caretaker and a killer."
