Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Austin American-Statesman
Texas school districts that designate employees to carry handguns do not violate state laws banning concealed firearms at sporting events or during school board meetings, Attorney General Greg Abbott said in an opinion released recently. Known as a guardian plan, the safety measure provides armed protection for smaller, rural school districts that cannot afford to create a police force, hire resource officers or contract with local police departments for part-time help, according to state Rep. Joe Pickett, D-El Paso.
