Texas Senate passes bill to establish sales tax holiday for firearms
KXAS-TV
The Texas Senate has approved a plan that would allow shoppers to buy guns, ammunition and hunting supplies without having to pay sales taxes during the last weekend in August. The state already designates annual sales tax-free weekends for the purchase of some school supplies and energy-efficient appliances. Sen. Brandon Creighton's plan would extend the same exemption to firearm purchases.

Millions of women are buying guns, taking up shooting
Bearing Arms
It's no secret to those of us in the industry that gun ownership in the U.S. is booming ... so to speak. While fewer Americans are willing to talk to unknown pollsters over the phone about their firearms, it is well-documented that gun companies are seeing record sales, that new and expansive ranges are being built by private businesses and government alike to meet the demand for firing line spaces, and training companies are seeing courses of almost every kind of sold-out on a frequent basis. Data continuing to pour in suggests that these new shooters aren't the traditional while, male, rural gun owners, either.

Ultimate .300 Blackout ammo test
Shooting Times
The .300 AAC Blackout is likely the most versatile cartridge for the AR-15 platform. In fact, almost every ammo manufacturer loading this relatively newborn wildcat is offering specialized loads for specific purposes. Want to shoot 110-grain .30-caliber bullets at 2,250 feet-per-second (fps) through a 10-inch barrel? There's a Blackout round for that. Want to shoot 1-MOA groups with subsonic 220-grain bullets through a suppressor? There's a Blackout round for that, too.

Patriot Ordnance Factory's P415 Carbine
American Rifleman
Frank DeSomma didn't set out to be a gun designer; he was just an engineer in the aerospace industry who happened to be a gun enthusiast. The job of a process engineer is to be a troubleshooter and to discover better ways of doing things. Fifteen years ago, DeSomma was working on FALs with his son when the troubleshooter in him took over — he realized that a piston operating system such as the one used by the ubiquitous Belgian battle rifle, the FN-FAL, was just what the AR-15 needed. Thirty hours of concept work later he had a design, and within a month he had a firing prototype. Before he knew it, Patriot Ordnance Factory was born.

Range estimation methods in rifle shooting
The Daily Caller
Putting aside technology in the form of laser rangefinders and rangefinding reticles, there are several methods available to the shooter for range estimation. Techniques such as the known-distance comparison, bracketing, map method and short-distance method allow the shooter to make a structured estimate of the range, which is far superior to a flat-out guess. Each of these methods results in estimations, which therefore are subject to inaccuracy and variance, but the strength of these methods is that they can all be used at the same time. This enables the shooter to develop a "composite range" that's averaged from the results of all the methods. With practice, this does provide a reasonably accurate representation of real range.
