Use Freedoms to Debate Second Amendment Issues
from the Statesman Journal
Nobody wants to encourage or invite another campus killing spree like the one in 2007 at Virginia Tech University, in which 32 people died and 17 were wounded. But does that reasonable concern extend to prohibiting a rally or a flyer that promotes the idea of allowing students to carry firearms on campus in self-defense? In Texas Tarrant County College administrators refused to allow an "empty holster" protest on campus — even in the college's free-speech zone. A spokesman for Tarrant was quoted as saying the holster protest would be "disruptive to the campus environment." More

NRA Gun Case Appeal Heads to High Court
from USA Today
President Obama’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, 2nd Circuit Judge Sonia Sotomayor, owes the American people an explanation on her view of the Second Amendment. Sotomayor shouldn’t be allowed to skirt the Second Amendment issue, because she cosigned a decision in a case earlier this year that exhibited a dismissive and hostile view of the right to bear arms. Now the first two clauses in the Bill of Rights have come together in an ongoing debate over the right of college students to advocate that they be allowed to carry guns on campus. More

Commissioners OK Season Changes; TPWD Waits on Feds
from the Tyler Morning Telegraph
Not all the news out of the last Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting was as costly as the license-fee increase. There actually was good news, beginning with the commission approving a 70-day season and 15-bird daily bag limit for dove. However, it is not a done deal until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service gives final approval. More
