Threat Management Under Stress For Responsible Armed Citizens

San Antonio, Texas 24-25 May 2014

A crash in ammunition prices is coming
Ammoland
Handgun and rifle ammunition has been hard to find at times. .22 long rifle ammunition tripled in price over the last 18 months. People would line up to buy ammunition at prices two and three times the level that they were just two years ago. All of that is about to change — ammunition supply looks as though it is ready to catch up with demand.

Why all hunters should care about ban on elephant trophies
Lone Star Outdoor News
Relatively few hunters will ever hunt an elephant. But every hunter who supports science-based wildlife conservation and management has reason for concern about the Obama administration’s recent ban on importing lawfully hunted elephant trophies. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced in April that elephants hunted in Tanzania and Zimbabwe in 2014 may not be imported to the U.S.

This mix is designed to produce massive amounts of seed and at the same time offer cover for many species of upland birds. WhistleBack contains varieties that all grow and mature at different heights offering food to birds as small as quail and doves on up to pheasants or turkeys.

Texas, Dallas County officials vow to help take away abusers' guns
The Dallas Morning News
Efforts to keep guns away from domestic abusers intensified last week as state and county officials vowed to help enforce laws that forbid certain batterers from having firearms. Their commitments mark the most vocal collaboration yet to tackle the challenges of enforcing the gun ban, as Dallas County continues to make preventing domestic homicides a priority. These are the first steps in creating a countywide program to keep guns out of the hands of abusers.

Open carry protests: Our internal dilemma
Shotgun News
It’s always dangerous to start writing about an issue by saying, “I feel strongly both ways,” but that’s how it is with the current controversy swirling around Open Carry Texas. OCT members have stirred up a hornet’s nest by appearing at various fast-food eateries carrying rifles, with predictable outrage being generated in all the predictable places.

'Heroic' action to try and stop Vegas killers
USA Today
Joseph Wilcox went to Walmart to return an Internet modem. Instead, he became the third victim of a violent husband-and-wife shooting spree in Las Vegas that left two police officers dead, as well as the shooters. Police on described Wilcox, 31, as "heroic" for trying to confront the shooters with his concealed handgun as they entered the store. But his family described him as a quiet man who wanted to be a police officer and didn't always carry a gun.

The singles scene
American Hunter
For centuries, hunting was a basic necessity for survival. It was simple: Unsuccessful hunters didn’t eat as well as those who regularly brought home meat. Improvements in tools raised success levels and the quality of life, so hunting was usually done with the best and most efficient implements available. As our species became more civilized, learning agriculture and domesticating animals, hunting evolved from a necessity to a sport in much of the world.

Senate may return to guns
Politico
The 113th Congress is not done with its debate over guns and background checks. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hinted recently that his chamber may vote on the bipartisan gun background checks bill again this year — and said such a law could have prevented a mass shooting in Las Vegas. “Very few days go by that we don’t have these killings. The man in Las Vegas — clearly from what I’ve been able to read — was a felon. He couldn’t have bought a gun if he had background checks,” Reid told reporters.

Ladies choice
American Rifleman
If you are asked to contribute to the selection process for a particular woman, understand that there are several common mistakes to be avoided. Understanding that the woman’s hands are smaller, don’t go too far in choosing something that is little and fits the popular image of a woman’s gun. If a woman really wants a handgun, she knows her own mindset and wants all the gun that she can possibly handle.

'Open carry' concerns at state GOP convention
KXVT-TV
Open Carry gun rights activists will be out in full force at the state’s GOP convention in Fort Worth. "There’s a lot of talk in the party about constitutional carry and furthering more gun rights in Texas, so we’ve invited all the Open Carriers across the state to come out to the convention this week,” said Kory Watkins, leader of the controversial group Open Carry Tarrant County. “The black powder revolvers are allowed inside, but the shotguns and the rifles will be outside, and we’ll just have demonstrators throughout the week.”

Handgun sales are hot
CNN via KETK-TV
Handgun sales are hot — particularly compact pistols that are easily concealed for self-defense. Smith & Wesson's handgun sales jumped by nearly a third at the end of last year, and Colt Manufacturing sold twelve times as many handguns early this year as it did in 2013. And now Colt is moving to boost its handgun production by 50 percent.
