The 10 guns that defined America

Chris Kyle knew guns in a way no modern American ever has. As a Navy SEAL sniper, he recorded 255 kills on the battlefield during four deployments to Iraq. After he retired from the military, he began researching the firearms that shaped American history. His book new book — published posthumously — "American Gun: A History of the U.S. in Ten Firearms" details the rifles and pistols wielded by soldiers, police officers, hunters, mobsters and outlaws that most influenced the culture of this nation.

America's love affair with guns
ABC News
In the United States the failure of the Obama administration to pass even modest gun reforms in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting speaks to the power of the National Rifle Association — but also America's genuine affection for guns. While guns in American cities are all too often associated with crime, in the country it's a different story. There, many people's experiences with guns are positive — associated with hunting and self defence in remote areas where police aren't necessarily around the corner.

Gun law's co-author was neighbor of man shot by police
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
For nearly 20 years, Bill Carter of Fort Worth has championed Texans' right to carry handguns. Recently, his next-door neighbor was armed when police shot him dead. As a Texas House Republican and co-sponsor of the 1995 concealed-handgun law, Carter had to answer hundreds of questions that began, "What if ...." "If a law officer says put down the gun, you put it down," Carter said this week by phone from a Hill Country vacation. Carter, 84, wasn't home when Jerry Waller, 72, was shot in his garage.

Free guns for 'vulnerable' women in Houston
MSNBC
One Texas group wants to stop violence against women — by giving away free guns. While the national debate over gun control rages on, the nonprofit Armed Citizen Project has begun training and arming single women and single moms with pump action shotguns. On its website, the group describes itself as "dedicated to training and arming vulnerable women" and "fighting the war on women, one free shotgun at a time." The group is also geared toward providing residents of high-crime neighborhoods with firearms at no cost as long as they complete a 4-to-5 hour firearms class and pass a background check.

4 tactical light techniques for concealed carry
Gun Digest
In his new book, Handgun Training for Personal Protection, firearms trainer Richard Mann admits that acquiring a good tactical light was one of the first investments he made after becoming a police officer. It's easy to see why. Good flashlights are a game changer for concealed carry or armed duty and should be a part of your everyday carry kit. Today's tactical lights are powerful enough to provide total illumination of an area, your target and your handgun's sights.
