Conservation cuts are loss Americans cannot afford

During the next several weeks, Congress will make budget decisions for Fiscal Year 2012. These decisions will also determine the future of many conservation programs. In order to make sure these programs are not unjustly cut or eliminated entirely, Ducks Unlimited is working to educate national leaders and policymakers on how important conservation programs are to our people, our economy and our future. More

A portion of every license fee and renewal fee will go to TSRA Scholarship programs and to support 4-H Shooting Sports programs in Texas. Your fee for the special plate will be $30, in addition to your normal registration fee. Of that fee, $22 will go to a special fund set aside for these youth programs. These plates are also available for handicapped vehicles and can be transferred if you sell your vehicle. They are not available for motorcycles. More

Austinite finishes second at regional handgun championship

Jayne Pacifico of Austin finished second in the Women's Production division at the 2011 USPSA Area 1 Regional Handgun Championship, Presented by Springfield Armory. Sara Dunivin of Phoenix cruised to victory in the division by winning all 12 stages. Dunivin, who is the reigning USPSA Women's Single Stack National Champion, finished the match with a final score of 934.0416 points, placing her 12th overall in the division. More

Junior shooters shine in Plzen

Two Texans, Taylor Gallegos of Prosper and Samuel Muegge of Bolig, were among the top American finishers at the 21st Meeting of the Shooting Hopes in Plzen, Czech Republic. Gallegos scored 364 points in the junior women's 10m air pistol shooting competition. Muegge finished in 30th place with 587 points in the junior men's 50m rifle prone. More

Dallas Safari Club to grow expo with quail coalition

Long known as a premier annual event for big-game hunters at home and abroad, the Dallas Safari Club convention and expo will expand in 2012 to include attractions focused on quail and other upland birds. The expansion is part of a new partnership between DSC and Quail Coalition, a Texas-based organization focused on upland bird conservation. More

Washington Post blames the NRA for ATF gun running scandal?

It's hard to determine what it is about gun issues that makes people lose their minds, but a recent editorial from the Washington Post is pretty incredible. The post acknowledges that the ATF flooding Mexico with 2,500 weapons which were used in a variety of crimes — including the murder of a U.S. border agent — was pretty questionable, but the real culprits are the NRA who has dared to criticize the agency or something. More

Support to safeguard traditional ammunition grows

The number of congressmen co-sponsoring legislation to clarify the longstanding exemption of ammunition and ammunition components under the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 has been steadily rising and now stands at 75, with eight new co-sponsors added just last week alone. Also known as the Hunting, Fishing and Recreational Shooting Protection Act, this bipartisan legislation is being championed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. More

A new television series premiering July 3 at 2 p.m. (CT) on Outdoor Channel, "RMEF Team Elk," features the hunting and conservation adventures of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation members. A host of members appear in the show's first season, including celebrities such as baseball Hall-of-Famer Goose Gossage, outdoor personalities Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, football legend Walt Garrison, racing champion Johnny Unser and pro bull riders Dustin Elliott and Austin Meier. Lepor tops 200,000 registered targets

NSCA Past Chairman Bob Lepor has achieved a milestone that has never before been accomplished in sporting clays: He shot his 200,000th lifetime registered target! Bob crashed the 200,000-plus marker while shooting the Homestead Cup in May. In three separate years, Lepor has topped the 20,000-target mark, with his most prolific year in 1998 when he shot an amazing 31,650 targets. More
