Illinois becomes last state to allow concealed carry
The Daily Caller
Illinois became the last state to lift its ban on the concealed carry of firearms. The state legislature voted to override Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn's veto of initial legislation to allow and regulate concealed carry. After the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Illinois's ban on concealed carry unconstitutional last December, legislators were required to take action by June 9 to pass laws allowing and regulating concealed carry. The court later extended the deadline.

Gun Geo Marker app tries to locate homes, businesses of gun owners
Fox News
A new Android app asks users to expose the home addresses of gun owners they deem "potentially unsafe" — and share that information with the world. The Gun Geo Marker app, released to Google's Play app store on July 7, invites users to mark the homes and businesses of "suspected unsafe gun owners ... to help others in the area learn about their geography of risk from gun accidents or violence." The app bills itself as merely a tool to collect information, but it was hit with a firestorm of negative reviews and comments from people worried that it could do more harm than good.

Armed protesters rally in Texas, denied entry into state capitol building
The Huffington Post
Armed demonstrators gathered outside the Texas capitol building in Austin, seeking to highlight the state's right to openly carry rifles. While some were unsettled by the display, the protesters said the event was designed to get people accustomed to the weapons and show that those carrying them were normal citizens. "That's why we're here. Trying to make people feel more at ease, so they don't feel that way," said Scott Smith, a member of the group Open Carry Texas, which organized the event.
