Perry signs handful of bills that tweak concealed handgun license, firearm laws
The Dallas Morning News
The Legislature didn't pass either of the two campus carry bills that would allow concealed handgun license holders to bring their guns into classrooms and buildings on higher education campuses. The Senate version was stalled in committee and the House version never made it to the Senate floor for debate — some Democrats threatened to filibuster if it did.

Worth of new school marshal bill is in ability to opt out
The Dallas Morning News
Given what passes for logic and wisdom in the Texas Capitol when the subject is firearms, it was almost a pleasant surprise to see freshman Rep. Jason Villalba's HB 1009 pass into law. In the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre, the Dallas Republican wanted to give Texas schools more protection options. His middle-ground solution was to give districts the option to participate in a secret marshal system, similar to those providing emergency security on U.S. airliners.

Proposed Texas bill supports simulated gun play in public schools
United Press International
A Texas legislator would deny federal funding to any public school that punishes a student for simulated gun play with pencils or pastry, his new bill states. Republican Congressman Steve Stockman calls H.R. 2625, the Student Protection Act, "a bill to protect the rights of children," and specifies denial of funding to any public school that punishes children for drawing pictures of guns, pretending to possess a gun or "brandishing pastry or other food which is partially consumed in such a way that the remnant resembles a gun."

Prepared and ready — Home defense
Ammo Land
Preparation is a multi-faceted proposition inclusive of all disciplines of the subject upon which one wishes to be ready. Preparation is the journey and ready is the destination. The only way to make the most out of preparation is to realize that readiness is a moving target. The warrior mustn't ever feel ready unless he is on the battlefield. If he leaves the training deck and feels ready he should evaluate his ego and mindset or at least how hard he is pushing himself.

Crowley completes CHL Instructors Course, will offer local training
Archer County News
When the state of Texas created the Concealed Carry License enabling ordinary citizens that had taken the proper training to become certified to carry handguns in most areas of public life, opponents were extremely afraid of the possible consequences. They feared that mobs of pistol-packing vigilantes with itchy trigger fingers would turn Texas into a "wild west," where killings were commonplace and no one was safe. Contrary to that dark vision, CHL carriers have turned out to be some of the most law-abiding and safe gun owners in the country, according to statistics provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
