US Texas lawmaker files bill against schools' anti-gun paranoia
International Business Times
For U.S. Texas lawmaker Rep. Steve Stockman, R-36th district, punishing school children just because they are mimicking characters with imaginary weapons and want to save the world is already downright killing their right to play. Stockman introduced a bill mandating the suspension of federal funding to schools that punish students for "harmless expressions of childhood play" like playing with imaginary guns.

Stand Your Ground must remain standing

It didn't take long after George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin for the event to be portrayed as the act of a vigilante, or a one-man lynching party. A mug shot of a surly, mentally detached-looking Zimmerman juxtaposed to a 9th grade yearbook photo of bright-eyed, smiling, young Martin became staples of reports on the story, and in a way, became the story itself.

Study: Most 1st-time gun buyers, especially women, choose firearms for home and self-defense
Guns.com
It's no secret that Americans own lots of guns. In fact, gun ownership in the country has risen, even before the latest gun control debate sparked an even greater increase in gun sales to which the market is still recovering from in some areas. The National Shooting Sports Foundation recently conducted a study to see just who the new gun buyers were — demographically, not personally — what types of guns they were buying, where they were purchasing them from, how much they were spending and what their experience levels were, among other details.

The Dallas Morning News
Last year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department processed more than 47,000 applications for 5,400 hunting permits on lands controlled by the state agency. Applications have increased by more than 11,000 in the last 10 years. Kelly Edmiston, TPWD's public hunting coordinator, said there was a small decline in applications in 2003 and 2004, probably due to an increase in application fees. Applications have steadily grown since 2004.
