TSRA gun show is this weekend in Mesquite

The Texas State Rifle Association, the NRA state affiliate, is having its annual gun show. It will be held at the Mesquite Convention Center this Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $8 a day or $10 for a weekend pass; children 12 and under are free with a paid adult. TSRA membership will be available at the gun show but is always available at www.tsra.com or by phone at 512-615-4200 during regular business hours. More

Twelve Democratic senators have joined 45 Republicans in a fast growing movement to halt progress on an Obama-backed United Nations effort that could bring international gun control into the United States and slap America's gun owners with severe restrictions. Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester's office provided Whispers with their letter, signed by 11 other Democrats, urging the president to press for significant changes in the treaty. More

Soldiers showcase skills on national stage

Several members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit competed at and won national shooting championships across the country. Members of the Shotgun platoon started things off at the USA Shooting National Shotgun Championship June 26-July 2 in Colorado Springs. Sgt. Jeff Holguin claimed the gold medal in Men's Double Trap, beating out Staff Sgt. Josh Richmond, ranked No. 1 in the world, and Sgt. Glenn Eller, a 2008 Olympic Champion, to win the gold. More

2012 Championship Tour announced

Sites and dates have been announced for the first NSCA Championship Tour, consisting of five Regional Championships, the U.S. Open and National Championship. The five Regional shoots replace the seven Zone shoots in 2012 and gain selection shoot status with the aim of rejuvenating the championship structure. In general, NSCA Zones have been mapped into Regions. More

Agent who supervised gun-trafficking operation testifies on his failings

A federal agent who helped supervise the gun-trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious told Congress that he had made mistakes during the effort to dismantle a network that was funneling assault weapons to Mexican drug cartels. William Newell, the former special agent in charge of the Phoenix field division of the ATF, said he should have more frequently reassessed the risk associated with monitoring people who acquired weapons that ended up with the cartels. Louisiana has record waterfowl harvest

Waterfowl hunters harvested more than 2.7 million ducks in Louisiana during the 2010-11 waterfowl season, more than any other state, according to the recently released annual U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Migratory Bird Hunting Activity and Harvest report. Louisiana's harvest accounts for 18 percent of the United States harvest. More
