NRA supports lawsuit challenging multiple sales reporting requirement

The National Rifle Association is fully funding and supporting a lawsuit challenging the Obama administration's demand that Federal Firearms License holders report multiple sales of long guns in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. The lawsuits filed assert that the ATF lacks statutory authority to demand these reports. More

Law enforcement has long considered America's federally licensed firearms retailers to be its partners in combating the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms. Those sentiments were again realized when a Killeen gun dealer, Guns Galore LLC, notified law enforcement of a suspect purchaser. Soon after the call to police was made, Army Pvt. Naser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier, was picked up and arrested in connection with an alleged plot to attack Fort Hood. More

The 2011 USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Championships for Shotgun crowned two new National Trap Champions. Collin Wietfeldt (Hemlock, Mich.) took home top honors in Men's Trap with a match score of 122 targets and 21 targets in the final. Rachael Heiden (Clinton, Mich.) shot 120 match targets and 21 targets in the final for 141 total targets and the Women's Trap gold medal. In the Men's Trap J2 Category, the silver medalist was Jake Fritcher (Driftwood, Texas) with 112 targets. More

New licenses go on sale Aug. 15

Mark your calendar. Hunting and fishing licenses expire Aug. 31, but licenses for 2011-2012 go on sale Aug. 15. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department issues about 2.1 million hunting and fishing licenses annually, according to a news release. They are sold at TPWD's 28 field offices, more than 65 state parks and at more than 1,500 retailers across Texas. More

After two major lawsuits were filed to stop implementation of new firearm purchase reporting requirements — which some say were inspired by the botched Operation Fast and Furious — Bellevue's Second Amendment Foundation did something many observers might find out of the ordinary, while it did not do something else. SAF applauded both the National Shooting Sports Foundation and National Rifle Association for filing separate federal lawsuits, and then promised to file an amicus brief "at the appropriate time." Texas early migratory seasons set for dove, teal and Canada geese

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service SRC has approved the 2011-2012 Texas early migratory game bird seasons, including a 70-day season and 15-bird daily bag statewide for dove, a 16-day early season for teal and Canada geese. Texas dove season in the North and Central Dove Zones will run from Sept. 1 through Oct. 23 and reopen Dec. 23 through Jan. 8. The South Zone dove season will run Sept. 23 through Oct. 30, reopening Dec. 23 through Jan. 23. More
