AmmoLand    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has once more been asked to share what he knows about gunwalking in Texas in a letter sent yesterday by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas. The letter asked Holder "to immediately disclose information related to the existence of any potential 'gun-walking' programs in the State of Texas and provide answers to the family of fallen U.S. ICE Agent Jaime Zapata about the source of the weapons found at his murder scene, one of which has been linked to a Texas-based straw purchaser." Ryan warns gun control coming in Obama 2nd term
Washington Examiner    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Rep. Paul Ryan, the avid hunter who is Mitt Romney's running mate, is warning that President Barack Obama in a second term will advocate for gun control, one of his passions before running for president in 2008. Obama has largely avoided the gun issue in his first term, especially after his 2008 presidential campaign gaffe in which he said bitter, rural Americans "cling to guns or religion." More

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Lone Star Outdoor News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
After spending countless hours situating stands, filling feeders and planning all the last-minute details of how the opening hunt of the year should go, rains across much of the state poured down, dampening the hopes of many hunters. The archery and MLDP opener is like Christmas to many of the state's deer hunters, who awoke this year to a soggy Saturday that hampered access to hunting locations and hurt visibility. More

The hunt is on for feral hogs
KXAN-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A new effort to clip the feral hog population in Texas began Oct 1. The state is offering money to hunters who kill the hogs. The invasive animals cause a lot of problems. Right now the state estimates there are about 1.5 million feral hogs in Texas and that number is growing. "The state of Texas estimates that feral hogs can cause up to $200 in property damage per year per hog," said Nick Dornak of The Plum Creek Watershed Partnership. More

    Rules for buying collectible guns
Guns & Ammo    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
From Garry James: Perhaps a better title for this piece would be "Thoughts on Buying Collectible Guns." Personally, I hate most rules and go out of my way to skirt or break them whenever the fancy takes me. Buying any kind of collectible, be it firearms, comic books or bottle caps is subject to so many variables that it is often difficult to establish a bunch of hard and fast rules that apply to all cases. Dream start to Texas' South Zone wingshoot
Corpus Christi Caller-Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
David Sikes, an outdoors columnist for the Corpus Christi Caller, writes: "Humidity is low. The temperature is 64 degrees. Fields are dry. The forecast calls for sunny and mild. And the first bird of the morning to bounce at my feet is a plump collared dove. Where the hell am I? Surely I was still asleep, dreaming about some mythical place where exotic dove fly on a cool breeze in September. Nope. I actually was in a field south of Kingsville for this Sept. 28 opener." AR-15 debate: Can the .300 Blackout really replace the 5.56?
Shooting Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
From Greg Rodriguez: The M4 platform has its detractors, but as long as it's kept relatively clean and well lubricated, it is as reliable as any firearm extant, and as for accuracy and ergonomics, the M4 is hard to beat. If the platform has any real weakness, it is the 5.56mm cartridge. Several cartridges have come down the pike recently that were intended to replace the 5.56, but the .300 AAC Blackout is, in my opinion, the most viable option. More
