Now accepting applications for Texas Y.E.S. 2015
TSRA
The Texas State Rifle Association is proud to be the sponsoring state organization along with the NRA to host the Texas Youth Education Summit (Texas Y.E.S.) in Austin over the dates of Feb. 18 – 22, 2015.

All Texas high school sophomores and juniors are eligible — Click here to apply. The deadline for applications to be received, along with all additionally required information is Friday, Jan. 9, 2015. The selection committee will select six (6) attendees from each of the three (3) NRA regions in Texas to travel to Austin for an educational experience they will not forget. Time in Austin will be spent learning about the legislative process with a trip to the state Capitol, meetings with legislators and discussion of the process of passing a bill. There will also be time for hands on firearm instruction and demonstration; and essay and debate contest between participants, along with visits to Austin area museums and historic venues.

Please spread the word to any and all worthy high school students. In addition to grants from the NRA Foundation, we are seeking financial sponsorships to help defray the food, lodging and transportation costs for this event. Please direct any contributions payable to TSRA with Texas YES 2015 in the memo line of your check and mail to TSRA HQ. Questions can be directed to 2015 Chairwoman Mary Ellis at 903-647-4701.

Upcoming CMP sanctioned shooting match
Tarleton State University
The Tarleton State University Rifle Team is holding a CMP Sanctioned Garand & Vintage Military Match on Oct. 25.

The location of the range is: Tarleton State Universiety Rifle Team in Mingus, Texas. Firing begins at 9:30 a.m.

World Championship rifle team members return to the line to lead NCAA teams this season
USA Shooting
More than half the members of the USA Shooting Rifle Team returning from the World Shooting Championships in Granada, Spain will hop right back on the line with their respective collegiate rifle teams as NCAA Rifle action gets underway. Fourteen of the 29 rifle athletes on the World Championship team currently (or will) shoot for NCAA rifle programs this season.

Texas court dismisses Henry Vichique's open carry rifle case

After months of fighting to have his case dismissed, a young man from San Antonio has finally been granted his wish. Henry Vichique received word that his case was dismissed following the recommendation of city prosecutor Elizabeth Yetman. Vichique was facing charges for carrying a loaded rifle within city limits, but part of the problem with the case was the fact that the city ordinance directly conflicts with the state law.

Military-grade equipment on hand to protect UT campuses
KXAN-TV
Law enforcement agencies, schools and college campuses across the country are utilizing military-grade equipment from the Department of Defense. It’s through the 1033 program, and interested parties must go through a rigorous application process, stating purpose and rationale for the equipment. The University of Texas System Police is taking advantage of the program. So far they have a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, two Humvees, rifles and rifle sights. But the hope is that they will never have to use it.

At Crye-Leike Realtors in Bryant they have a sign-up list for a concealed carry class. Realtor Joan Hunter says she will be carrying a gun now. She says with the murder of Carter, so many things have changed.

10/22 component maker focuses on compliance after Ruger filed suit

Sturm, Ruger and Co. challenged in Federal court a Texas company that sells exclusively aftermarket components for the Ruger 10/22 rifle, claiming the company hijacked its name and ubiquitous design. The complaint accused Kidd Innovative Design of trademark infringement, unfair competition and deceptive trade practices. However, shortly after it was filed in Ruger’s home state of New Hampshire, Kidd said it began focusing efforts to comply with Ruger’s requests, Mary Kidd, a Kidd company spokeswoman, told Guns.com.

House supports measure to ease challenges to Pennsylvania gun laws

The Pennsylvania House recently voted overwhelmingly on a measure that would give the NRA standing to sue municipalties that enact their own gun laws and subject them to paying the cost of legal fees in a successful challenge. The measure — approved on a preliminary vote of 143-54 after lengthy debate — stems from a legal battle in Philadelphia between the city and the NRA which sued over gun control laws that were more restrictive than state law.

Maine bear hunting in the hands of voters
