'Stand your ground' gun laws produce partisan divide at Hill hearing

The passage of a string of state "stand your ground" self-defense laws in recent years produced a partisan divide on Capitol Hill, with Democrats saying the laws have led to increased gun violence, often targeting minorities, while Republicans questioning the need for a hearing on the issue at all.

Military kids take up arms — to hunt
The Courier Journal
Deer hunting will put its best foot forward when the Derby City, Ky., Heartland and Barren River branches of the Quality Deer Management Association host 40 military family youngsters for two days of hunting and more. The Derby City and Kentucky Heartland branches will entertain 30 hunters at the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area in Meade County. The other 10 will hunt with the Barren River QDMA branch near Bowling Green.

Texas concealed handgun license murder rates

Texas is one of the few states that tracks crimes committed by concealed carry weapon permit holders. In Texas, the permit is called a concealed handgun license, or CHL. The Texas Department of Public Safety has filed annual reports of the convictions of CHL holders from 1996 through 2011. They wait two years to obtain final conviction information before publishing the totals.

The TSA set a new record for guns found at airports

Agents of the Transportation Security Administration have discovered over 1,500 guns at airport checkpoints year to date, a record for the agency. In 2012, the TSA set a record when it discovered more than 1,500 guns. At this rate, the agency responsible for manning security at United States airports is on track to discover more than 1,800 guns in 2013.

2 arrested at Texas Capitol gun-rights rally
The Dallas Morning News
State troopers arrested two men said to be carrying antique pistols outside the Texas Capitol during a demonstration by a gun-rights group that also helped spearhead a rally of openly armed supporters recently at the Alamo. The two men were arrested for criminal trespass and have refused to identify themselves to authorities, Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger said.
