NWTF Texas to invest $154,000 in state projects

The Texas State Chapter of the NWTF dedicated $154,043 in Texas this year to conservation, education, outreach and other projects. The largest single commitment is $67,947 to fund habitat enhancement projects including equipment purchases and workshops. The chapter allocated $49,300 to support education initiatives and scholarships for youth. More

NSSF to file amicus brief in Texas case

In response to a ruling by a federal judge in the Northern District of Texas, the National Shooting Sports Foundation plans to file a friend-of-the-court brief in support of NRA's appeal of the ruling in Jennings v. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. In the case, the NRA and a group of responsible young adults argued that 18- to 20-year olds should be able to purchase handguns from licensed retailers. More

Railroad commissioner seeks right to carry firearm

Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman has proposed a policy change that will allow RRC employees who are in full compliance with the state's concealed handgun license laws to carry firearms while they are conducting commission business. Smitherman said, "RRC employees often work alone in remote and desolate areas of the state where they may encounter criminals or dangerous wild animals. The least we can do is allow them to exercise their legal right to carry firearms in accordance with state law." More
