Texas gun supporters divided on best approach to legalizing open carry
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
In Texas, where toting guns is as second nature to some as wearing cowboy hats, there's a rare and growing divide over firearms. Many Second Amendment supporters are united on the end goal: Changing the way guns are carried in Texas and letting handgun owners openly carry their firearms. But they disagree on how to get there.

Celebrity gun manufacturer sets up shop in Texas
The Texas Tribune
Following efforts by Gov. Rick Perry to convince gun manufacturers to relocate to Texas, a celebrity firearm maker has set up shop here, citing the state's pro-Second Amendment attitude. "Texas is very business friendly, and more guns are legal here," high-end motorcycle magnate Jesse James told The Texas Tribune at a launch party for his new company, Jesse James Firearms Unlimited.

There's no stopping 3-D printed guns
National Review
In Austin, Texas, an engineering firm called Solid Concepts printed the first fully functional metal handgun. "It's actually a funny story," the firm's spokeswoman Alyssa Parkinson tells me. "A couple of months ago, two engineers frustrated with reading that laser sintering wasn't as accurate or strong as other manufacturing techniques decided to put a gun together." Slowly the pair developed the blueprints and specced the parts, and eventually had a functional .45 ACP 1911. "They weren't sure how the company's VPs would react," Parkinson laughs.

Time to repeal the Second Amendment, eh?
The Examiner
A Texas A&M professor's remarks about repealing and replacing the Second Amendment are getting plenty of attention, but buried in the story, as reported by the Daily Caller and Guns.com is an embarrassing revelation about the effectiveness of gun laws in the opinion of the legal community. They don't work to reduce crime.

Dewhurst to Congress: Did NSA spy on gun owners?
The Texas Tribune
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst called for a congressional investigation into whether the National Security Agency's domestic spying program has ever targeted gun owners, kept a list of firearms purchases or tracked gunshow visits. "Under the Obama Administration, a number of our constitutional rights have been threatened, most notably our right to bear arms," Dewhurst said in a letter to John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, the state's U.S. senators, and U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, the Austin Republican who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee.

Armed protesters rattle Texas moms' gun-control meeting
USA Today
The sudden appearance of about 40 armed men outside a Dallas-area restaurant was the latest confrontation between an open-carry gun-rights group and a mothers group advocating gun control that was meeting inside. Police monitored the incident at the Blue Mesa Grill in Arlington, but took no action because it is legal to carry long guns openly in Texas.

Dems vow passage of background check bill
The Hill
Far from dead, legislation expanding background checks before gun sales still has a chance of passing this Congress, Democratic leaders in the House and Senate said. While the background check issue has been dormant on Capitol Hill since the Senate shot down such a proposal earlier in the year, Democrats argue that enough pressure on House GOP leaders would return the topic to prominence — and force a floor vote — before next year's mid-term elections.

Intended Knockout Game victim shoots back
WND
The newspaper in Lansing, Mich., came so close to getting it right: An intended victim of the Knockout Game pulled a gun and shot at his attacker. So far so good. This version of the game had a twist: Instead of punching the victim in the face, the predator used a taser — a KL-800 Type Stun Gun capable of generating 1.8 million volts. The assailants had scouted the site, the victim and even practiced firing the taser. But then it all went wrong. Or right.
