NICS background checks break 200 million
GUNS
As of Nov. 30, the FBI has run more than 200 million background checks for firearm transfers. The exact number was 200,226,838, aka 200 megaguns. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there 200 million guns were sold in the U.S. or that there are 200 million new gun owners. The FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System only tracks the number of background checks during potential sales, which can include multiple guns per exchange, as well as used gun sales.

Defending the single shot rifle
RifleShooter
Instead of focusing on what the single shot won’t do, let us start by focusing on the things that it does well. For starters, single shots are simple: There are no feeding issues to concern oneself with because it does not feed itself. Extraction and or ejection are literally straightforward, so they are not generally of concern, at least mechanically. The rifle is either loaded or unloaded. There’s no mystery of rounds in the magazine versus rounds in the chamber. Strength is almost never an issue, particularly with the falling block designs.

Police department asks volunteers to have homes searched for guns
GUNS
As part of its new “Consent to Inspect” program, authorities in Beloit, Wisconsin, want residents to open their doors so they can come and inspect for illegal guns without a warrant. The effort is part of a new push to help get firearms off the streets in an area that has suffered an uptick in homicides this year. Beloit Police Chief Norm Jacobs feels that gun violence is a disease and his new program, which asks local residents to allow officers to come by and search for firearms and even modified toy guns, is a step to a cure.
