Victory for self-defense and the Second Amendment
AmmoLand    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled that Illinois' total ban on carrying firearms for self-defense outside the home or business is unconstitutional. The case involves lead plaintiff Mary Shepard, an Illinois resident and a trained gun owner, who is licensed to carry a concealed handgun in both Utah and Florida. More

Well-armed activists want the rest of America defenseless
The Washington Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The loudest advocates of gun control are well protected. President Barack Obama said he wants more laws restricting firearms ownership because, in his hometown of Chicago, "there's an awful lot of violence, and they're not using AK-47s, they're using cheap handguns." With his own armed Secret Service detail, the president doesn't need to worry about crime. Illinois State Sen. Donne Trotter takes the hypocrisy up a notch. More

Federal gun checks surge as violent crime ebbs
USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The number of federally required background checks of prospective gun purchasers has nearly doubled in the past decade — a time when violent crime has been in long decline in many places across the USA, according to FBI records. The bureau's National Instant Check System does not track actual firearms sales — multiple guns can be included in one purchase. But the steady rise in background checks tracks other indicators that signal escalating gun sales. More

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

What better way to do that than to make a gift of a firearm to a family member, close friend or relative? The first thing to remember if you're thinking about giving someone a gun is that ... it's a gun! More

Maintaining the legacy
Sports Afield    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The news about the future of hunting isn't as bleak as it may have appeared a few years ago. A new government report shows that hunter numbers have jumped 9 percent in the past five years. The just-released 2011 National Survey of Hunting, Fishing, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation shows 13.7 million people or 6 percent of the U.S. population age 16 and older, went hunting in 2011. That marks a 9 percent increase over 2006, reversing a downward trend. More

Shopping tips
American Rifleman    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
This time of year typically sees an increase in robberies, as there are more people out, it gets dark earlier and almost everyone is in a hurry. Fortunately, there are simple things you can do to reduce your chances of becoming a victim. In other words: Slow down. Rushing through stores and into a parking lot while carrying numerous packages and on the cell phone might save you minutes, but stress levels rise and safety decreases. More

Shooting tip: Pre-shot planning: observe
NSSA-NSCA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
O-P-T-I-M-A-L is a mnemonic to provide the shooter with a process to follow at each station, and it begins with pre-shot planning. The pre-shot planning phase usually occurs outside the shooting stand unless you are the lucky first shooter in the rotation, in which case you will only have the opportunity to Observe, Plan and Test during the view pairs, while standing in the shooting station. 10 rifle shooting myths exposed
Gun Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Through the years, many gun writers have warned shooters that flattened and damaged bullet points can severely affect shooting accuracy. The issue is one primarily a product of cartridges having been stored inside the magazine of a heavy-recoiling rifle. In such a case, when the rifle is fired, the cartridges sometimes are forced forward, causing the bullet points to impact the front of the magazine, resulting in the flattening of the soft lead points.
