Where did the big Texas mule deer go?

David E. Petzal just returned from a non-triumphal hunt in Texas where four hunters, in an area that is swarming with mule deer, went at it for five days and did not see a single shootable head. They saw spikes in battalion strength, regiments of forkhorns and brigades of little four-points, but nothing with antlers out past its ears that had lived more than a couple of years. The big deer, who knew what was what, had vanished. More

Pheasant hunting tough in Panhandle

There are pheasants in the Panhandle this year. But you will hunt long and hard to find them. So say reports from the region the week before Christmas. Dallas hunter Evan Purvis said he and a group hunted the area around Silverton for pheasants in between morning crane hunts. More
