Impact of historic 2011 drought lingers in Texas

Almost three years have passed since the rains returned and Texas emerged from a historic drought. Yet there still isn't enough water. The impact of record-breaking heat and years of little or no rainfall can be felt long after a dry spell passes, and Texas is now struggling with the brunt of a historic yearlong drought that crippled the state's lakes, agriculture and water supplies.

Dallas vies for 2016 Republican National Convention

Dallas leaders have decided to vie for the 2016 Republican National Convention and have begun recruiting members for a host committee. "The city of Dallas is enthusiastically throwing its hat in the ring!" Mayor Mike Rawlings, a Democrat, wrote in a letter co-signed by retired Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, a Republican. "We must move quickly. Our bid preparation is underway."

International tourism brought $181 billion to US economy in 2013

International visitors to the United States spent a record-breaking $180.7 billion on travel-related goods, services, and airfares in 2013, according to data released by the National Travel & Tourism Office. Tourism receipts increased 9 percent since 2012 and average monthly spend rose by $1.3 billion.
