Galveston Bay oil spill: Tar balls wash along the sand
The Weather Channel
Nearly 170,000 gallons of oil spilled into Texas' Galveston Bay after a barge carrying nearly 1 million gallons of oil collided with another ship Saturday. Crews have being working around the clock to contain the spill, going so far as to close down one of the world's busiest waterways for moving petrochemicals, but traces of oil have still been detected as far out as 12 miles in the Gulf of Mexico.
