Forecast: US business travel spending to top $292 billion in 2014

U.S. business travel grew nearly 3 percent in the first quarter of 2014, fueling a 7.6 percent increase in business travel spending, to $71.2 billion, according to the Global Business Travel Association, which recently released its latest business travel forecast, the "GBTA BTI Outlook — United States 2014." Based on first-quarter results, the forecast predicts a sizable increase in business travel spending for 2014: Overall, GBTA expects, U.S.-generated business travel spending will increase 6.8 percent this year, to $292.3 billion.

Travel campaign fuels $1 billion rise in hospitality industry

The Obama administration's controversial travel-promotion program has generated a roughly $1 billion increase in the value of the hospitality industry and stands to benefit the U.S. economy in the long run. So finds the first scientific evidence, from a Michigan State University-led study, showing a positive economic impact of the Travel Promotion Act. Congress is currently reviewing whether to extend the law, which went into effect in March 2010.

Mobile bookings growing in popularity, say corporate travel managers

Corporate travel managers are seeing more bookings coming from mobile devices, a new study by CarlsonWagonlitTravel has found. The survey queried 173 travel managers about mobile habits in corporate bookings, and brought in perspectives from across the globe from a variety of industries. The respondents represented companies with an average corporate travel spend of $75 million.
