US hotel industry reported increases during third quarter

The U.S. hotel industry reported increases in all three key performance metrics during the third quarter of 2013 in year-over-year measurements, according to data from STR. The industry's occupancy increased 1.4 percent to 67.9 percent; its average daily rate rose 4 percent to $111.88; and its revenue per available room was up 5.5 percent to $75.97.

US achieves record travel exports in August

After dropping slightly in July, U.S. travel exports hit a record monthly high of $15 billion in August, up from $14.8 billion the month prior, according to the U.S. Travel Association, which recently released its analysis of the U.S. Department of Commerce's latest report on international trade.
