US holiday travel seen at record as gasoline prices slide
U.S. travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays will rise for a sixth year to a record as low fuel prices contribute to disposable incomes, according to the nation’s biggest motoring organization. About 98.6 million people will journey 50 miles (80 kilometers) or more from Dec. 23 to Jan. 4, AAA said in an e-mailed statement. That's up from 94.8 million a year earlier and the most in data that began in 2001. Approximately 89.5 million people will drive, up 4.2 percent from last year, the Heathrow, Florida-based group said.

Brand USA gets 5 more years as Senate passes government spending bill
Brand USA, the private but quasi-governmental U.S. travel marketing arm, won a new lease on life as the U.S. Senate followed the House and passed a $1.1 trillion federal government spending bill recently that reauthorizes Brand USA through 2020. President Obama is expected to sign the government spending legislation, which funds the government through the end of the next fiscal year, avoiding a government shutdown and officially reauthorizing Brand USA in the process.

Free Wi-Fi and resort fees more common at hotels

Good news for holiday travelers who will be staying in a hotel: You are more likely this year to get free Wi-Fi, a free breakfast and high-definition television than in the past. That was among the findings of a new report by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, a trade group for the nation's lodging industry.
