GBTA forecasts 2013 increase in group spending

Recently, hotel consultancy TravelClick reported new "headwinds" for group travel. The Global Business Travel Association, however, has a different take: Based on improved business confidence, it has revised upward its 2013 forecast for group spending, it announced. According to the latest "GBTA BTI Outlook — United States" report, group spending will increase 6 percent in 2013, up from 5.2 percent growth forecast in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Lawmakers pass bill to help Cowboys Stadium land BCS national championship

State lawmakers passed a bill geared toward helping Cowboys Stadium land a BCS national championship game. The measure would ensure that the Arlington stadium is eligible for state funds to help draw the college football game to North Texas, even after the NCAA championship format changes next year. The bill gained final approval from the House and heads to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration.

We live in an age when the experience of face-to-face interaction in the retail environment has continually eroded or diminished in an effort to keep the costs down by companies or by the consumer. The efficiency of self-service has found its way to all industries, but the hotel industry is going to be an arena where exceptional service is the expectation — and that expectation will actually increase. The hotel industry just might be the last bastion for "service" as we have historically come to know and understand.
