Report: Travel was second-fastest growing US industry in 2013
International Meetings Review
Data released by the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis strongly suggests that the travel industry is playing a pivotal role in leading the United States economic recovery. The BEA's first-ever estimates of GDP growth by industry show that travel posted the No. 2 growth rate of all U.S. industries in 2013, trailing only the agricultural sector.

The key to saving the US transportation program

The U.S. transportation system, vital to our economic success, has some big problems. The most immediate is that by this summer it will run out of money to reimburse the states for projects they have taken on with the promise of federal funds. Meanwhile, Congress is due to renew the program this fall, allocating dollars for transportation infrastructure for the next several years. But with gas tax receipts slowing and coffers emptying faster than they can be filled, it's not clear how lawmakers will pull this off.

Poll: Women are embracing solo travel thanks, in part, to social media
Young women are vacationing alone more frequently, according to a new poll, which also finds that social media helps to provide a sense of comfort and companionship during solo travel. The survey, commissioned by online travel agency, was conducted in April by market research firm Vision Critical of women, ages 25-45 who have traveled in the last year from the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, and Germany.

US travelers are using their mobile phones a lot more than we think
Despite roaming and data charges, an astounding 90 percent of U.S. travelers say they use their mobile phones when vacationing domestically or abroad. That's according to the latest TripBarometer survey from TripAdvisor, which similarly notes that 91 percent of travelers globally say they use their smartphones on vacation. The most frequent use for U.S. travelers is to navigate their way around destinations.
