Multiple bills key to holding budget deal in place

With little debate, the Texas House voted 148-1 to suspend its rules to delay by a day voting on a measure critical to a budget deal this session. State Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, was the sole opposing vote. The move was the latest sign of straining relations between the House and Senate in the waning days of the legislative session.

US gasoline rises to $3.6566 per gallon in Lundberg Survey

The average price for regular gasoline at U.S. pumps rose 11.19 cents a gallon in the past two weeks to $3.6566 a gallon, according to Lundberg Survey Inc. The survey covers the period ended May 17 and is based on information obtained at about 2,500 filling stations by the Camarillo, Calif.-based company. The average, which reached a year-to-date peak of $3.795 in the period ended Feb. 22, is 12.67 cents below the year-earlier price of $3.7833 a gallon.

Schumer asks airlines to reverse flight change fees

Sen. Charles Schumer is asking airlines to reverse recent decisions to increase flight change fees. The New York Democrat said higher fees recently implemented by Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, American Airlines, and U.S. Airways make it difficult for families on budgets to travel, according to the Associated Press. The four carriers recently raised fees on ticket changes from $150 to $200.

FCC advances plan for faster in-flight Wi-Fi

It soon may be easier and faster to surf the Web at 30,000 feet. The Federal Communications Commission has proposed auctioning off the rights to use newly available airwaves to provide better in-flight Wi-Fi connections, as the government agency seeks to improve the speed and lower the cost of Internet service on commercial flights.

Tourist visitor centers go mobile to meet travelers where they're at

Cities across the U.S. are closing the doors on their storefront visitor bureaus and taking their message to the road. At least 10 cities have done away with the stationary institutions and pimped out trucks and vans with iPads, map murals, and music to draw tourists to this new generation of visitor centers.
