Air travel demand projected to double in 20 years
The demand for air travel will likely double by 2035, according to PwC's annual report on the state of the worldwide airline industry. But as the ascent of emerging economies and their burgeoning middle classes fuels the desire to travel to distant places, the airline industry will need to boost infrastructure, hire pilots and temper the ups and downs of fuel costs.

Is the US economy catching fire or catching up?
We would be a bit more convinced of May data signaling the economy was catching fire rather than catching-up if other data we look at, such as job postings, railcar loadings, and only ok Y/Y increases in net absorptions at new home sites, weren't adding up to 2.0-2.5 percent trend growth. Nevertheless, the Fed has been itching to tighten and trend growth is more than enough for the FOMC to run with it all the way to September lift off.

Low oil prices hurt hotels in energy markets

Drops in oil prices have taken a toll on U.S. hotel performance in major oil and gas tracts, according to a STR Analytics report released recently. Revenue per available room in major oil and gas submarkets has outpaced the rest of the country for years. But in 2015, their 6 percent RevPAR growth instead has trailed the country's 12-month running 8 percent, as measured by STR.

2.18M Chinese tourists spent a total of $23.76B in US in 2014

More than 2.18 million Chinese people visited the U.S. and spent $23.77 billion on aggregated total travel and tourism expenses in 2014, according to a report released by the U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office. The total number of Chinese visitors to the U.S. in 2014 increased by 21 percent compared with 2013 and they spent $2.6 billion more than in the previous year, almost five times what they spent in 2007.

Eight reasons why travel websites fail the consumer and lose a booking
Interesting research being released by Triptease recently following a survey and usability testing with consumers into their browsing behavior on hotel websites. Travel websites have notoriously low conversion rates, so TripTease's motivation in part is to find out what booking sites (hotels and online travel agencies) can do to add just a percentage or two to that ratio and improve the customer experience.
