Texas' economy grew 3.7 percent in 2013, ranking No. 8 among US states

Texas' economy grew 3.7 percent in 2013, thanks to the energy and real estate industries, according to data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. However, Texas ranked No. 8 nationally, as other states saw faster growth last year.

DFW-Hong Kong flight is now the longest in American Airlines' system

If we didn't mention it before, the new American Airlines flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Hong Kong, at 8,119 miles, is now the longest flight in American's network. The other flight launched last Wednesday, DFW-Shanghai, China, is the second longest AA flight at 7,346 miles. Before then, American's longest flight was its Chicago-Shanghai flight at 7,050 miles.

Business leaders to Congress: Expand Visa Waiver Program

A coalition of travel, hotel, retail, restaurant, professional and business leaders has launched a new campaign to increase international travel to the United States. Operating as the "Discover America Partnership," the coalition's No. 1 priority is securing passage of the Jobs Originating through Launching Travel Act, a bipartisan bill that would increase visitation to the United States by reforming the visa application process and expanding the Visa Waiver Program that enables international travelers from approved countries to enter the U.S. without a visa.

International visitors to the United States are extending their trips, but visiting fewer destinations in that time. In 2013, the average foreigner traveling to the U.S. for business or leisure stayed an average of 17.5 nights, up from 17 nights in 2012, according to data released by the U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office.
